Cupping Therapy

What is cupping therapy?

Cupping is an ancient therapy that is used to promote blood circulation in order to relieve pain and inflammation, as well as boost your immune system, through myofascial release. Cupping heals and alleviates pain very quickly, which is why many athletes use cupping to help with muscle recovery! We frequently perform cupping in conjunction with acupuncture for a synergistic healing effect.

Are there different types of cupping?

There are two types of cupping:

  • Dry cupping: the traditional method that involves leaving cups in position for a short period of time
  • Wet cupping: follows the process of dry cupping but includes a small puncture in your skin to draw out a small amount of blood

Depending on your needs and goals, we may move the cups around on your skin or keep them in one position during your treatment. At your consultation, you’ll learn more about which type of cupping works best for your needs.

What conditions can cupping help?

Cupping is often used in conjunction with other therapies like acupuncture to boost your body’s innate healing mechanisms. Some of the many conditions that cupping helps include:

  • Headaches
  • Generalized pain and soreness
  • Muscle tension
  • Herniated disc
  • Sciatica
  • Acne
  • Limited range of motion
  • Decreased flexibility
  • Edema
  • Bloating/Digestive Issues

Other health problems that show improvement with cupping therapy are cervical spondylosis, herpes zoster, and hives.
