What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a powerful and effective therapy that has been used for thousands of years to enhance

the circulation of biological energy (Qi), blood, and lymph in your body to promote your body’s natural healing capabilities. Acupuncture stimulates every biological system of your body, including your circulatory, nervous, endocrine, digestive, and respiratory systems to help rebalance and restore your body and mind. We insert thin and sterile needles into specific acupuncture points which trigger a cascade of reactions including but not limited to endorphin release for pain reduction and mood elevation, strengthening your immune system, and balancing your hormones.

What are acupuncture points and meridians?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your life energy, or Qi, travels along meridians of energy in your body. From a Western perspective, the acupuncture meridians correlate to the fascial pathways in the body and the acupuncture points correlate to collections of specialized cells called nodes. When the circulation of Qi is interrupted by illness, pain or other physical and/or emotional issues, then disease can take root.  Your body has over 300 acupuncture points that we can stimulate to redirect the flow of energy in your body.

What can I expect during an acupuncture session?

After a comprehensive review of your medical history and current concerns, we place sterile, thin needles just under the surface of your skin. Each needle goes into a specific acupuncture point that addresses your unique needs. If you are uncomfortable during the session, we guide you through breathing techniques that help you relax and ease any discomfort. Almost all patients find the treatments to be extremely relaxing and many fall asleep while resting on the table.

Depending on how many needles we use and how long they are kept in place, you can expect your acupuncture session to take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

Acupuncture works with consistency. When treatments are received regularly your health will improve more rapidly. We typically recommend 1-3 sessions per week for the first month and then reassess your needs. Keep in mind that your body and health concerns are unique and are often changing, so there is no cookie cutter way to treat patients.  Once your health has improved we recommend regular maintenance visits to keep your body healthy and aligned.
